Itqan Academy: Tajweed Definition, Importance, and Learning Path
If you are a new learner of the Quran, you must have come across the word "Tajweed" frequently.
Tajweed rules are essential to Quran recitation and Quran study as a whole.
The definition of Tajweed, its significance, how to learn Tajweed and the most crucial Tajweed regulations that every Muslim should be aware of are all covered in this article.
Tajweed definition:
In the context of Quran recitation, the terms "Tajweed" and "Tajwid" are frequently used.
It originates from the Arabic word (تجويد), which, in linguistic terms, signifies improvement or making something exceptional.
Tajweed, which refers to Quran reading and recitation, is a set of linguistic and phonetic guidelines used to recite the Quran correctly and in the same manner, as the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did.
One of the most well-known sciences in Islam and the Qur'an is tajwid.
It is science regulated by the static laws that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) recited the Qur'an orally after receiving the revelation from the Angel Gabriel (Peace be upon him).
To put it another way, Tajwid is the practice of not allowing the tongue to slip up when reciting Allah's verses.
You can correctly pronounce the letters and words in Quranic verses when you memorize the Quran using Tajweed, giving each letter its proper place when reciting the Quran.
Tajweed also lends a lovely voice to the Quranic recital.
A Quick Look at Tajweed
Let's look at Tajweed first to better understand the Tajwid.
Each Arabic letter has a Sifaat (a place of origin) and a Makhraj (an exit or articulation point) (attributes or characteristics).
An essential component of Tajweed is knowing the Makhraj and Sifaat of each letter.
When two letters share a lot of the same exits, it can be simple to confuse them.
Therefore, a person could change the meaning of the words in the Quran recitation if they are unaware of the characteristics of each letter.
Therefore, the reciter avoids such errors by studying and using the Tajweed guidelines when reciting the Quran.
Why Is Tajweed Study Important?
The holy Quran is Allah's (SWT) word, a message of mercy and instruction from Allah Almighty to all of humanity. It includes references to the Afterlife as well as facts, guidelines, and advice concerning many facets of life.
Therefore, it is crucial to recite the Quran with Tajweed to prevent mispronouncing Allah's words (SWT).
A typo in one letter could lead to miscommunication or incorrect reading of the entire verse (ayah).
By mastering the Tajweed guidelines, we may correctly pronounce Arabic letters and ensure that the meaning of our phrases is conveyed.
For instance, it teaches us that "س" and "ص" have different pronunciations and that if you mix them up in words, you can end up meaning something but saying something else.
Furthermore, it is Fard Ayn for every Muslim to recite the Quran with Tajweed.
In the daily prayers, every Muslim should recite the Quran in Tajweed.
In the Holy Qur'an, Allah (SWT) declares:
Or you might add to it and recite the Qur'an carefully.
"أو زد عليه ورتل القرآن ترتيلا".
Qur'an [73:4]
The Quran was revealed in Arabic, thus tajweed is essential to preserving it from modification or distortion.
Additionally, the Tajweed-recited Quran makes you feel as though your heart is melting with love for Allah (SWT) and the Quran.
Whether one is Muslim or not, hearing the Quran read according to Tajweed guidelines affects and seizes the heart.
